Redis is an in-memory data structure storage system used as a database, cache and message broker. For a WordPress site, Redis offers a significant performance improvement by reducing page load times. Acting as an advanced object cache, Redis stores frequently requested data in memory, allowing fast access and reducing the load on the database. This capability is particularly useful for high-traffic WordPress sites, where reducing database requests can dramatically improve the user experience and reduce server response times. In addition, Redis supports data structures such as strings, lists and sets, offering flexibility in data management for WordPress developers.
If you have a LWS Linux shared hosting package (excluding cPanel), you can activate Redis from your LWS customer area.
To do so, simply :
1. First, log in to your LWS account and access the shared hosting for which you want to activate Redis.
2. Search for the "Optimisation and performance" category and click on "Memcached/Redis".
3. In the dialog box that opens, check the activate button.
4. Confirm and wait about 5 minutes for Redis to be properly configured on your service.
An indicator on the home page for managing your service will give you an approximate countdown of the time remaining before it is taken into account.
Redis is now operational on your service. We're now going to look at how to set it up for a WordPress site.
To use Redis on your WordPress site, we advise you to use the"Redis Cache" extension.
To do this, log into the admin area of your WordPress site and then go to"Extensions" in the left-hand menu.
Click on the Add button at the top of the page.
Search for the plugin in the search bar by entering "Redis Cache".
Once you've found it in the list, click on"Install now" and once that's done, click on"Activate".
Then, in the left-hand menu, click on"Settings", then click on"Redis".
If you have successfully activated Redis on the LWS client panel, you will see an "Activate object cache" button that you will need to click in order for Redis to be operational for your WordPress site, you don't need to do anything else.
Otherwise, this button will not appear, meaning that Redis is not activated on your service. In the latter case, I invite you to return to the previous section to activate it on your LWS Panel.
You now know how to :
By following these steps, you've taken a significant step towards optimising the loading speed and performance of your site. Using Redis as an advanced object caching system is a wise choice for high-traffic sites, guaranteeing a better user experience and a noticeable reduction in the load on your database. 🚀
