Email error codes related to IP blocking for failed connection : L-IPXX

Procédure

Introduction

Welcome to our documentation dedicated to resolving errors caused by failed connections to email addresses from the same IP address and to managing email delivery on LWS. Here you will learn all about these errors and how to manage them effectively to avoid any unwanted blocking of your email deliveries. Our aim is to provide you with clear and concise information to help you get the most out of your email service.

I. Understanding L-IPXX errors

L-IPXX errors occur when our system has detected a large number of failed connections to one or more email addresses from the same IP address.

This situation can occur if a user no longer knows their password and tries to connect repeatedly, or if a device tries to connect repeatedly with the wrong password.

To solve this problem, it is essential to understand its origin and to take appropriate measures.

II. Quotas and blocking times for L-IPXX type errors

Error code Error description Reference period Blocking time Blocking target
L-IPA1 More than 10 failed connection attempts to different email addresses were made from this IP during the reference period 24 hours 24 hours
maximum
IP concerned
L-IPA2 More than 30 failed connection attempts to different email addresses were made from this IP during the reference period 7 days 7 days
maximum
IP concerned
L-IPA3 More than 60 failed connection attempts to different email addresses were made from this IP during the reference period 60 days 60 days
maximum
IP concerned
L-IPB1 More than 10 failed connection attempts to an email address with different passwords were made from this IP during the reference period 24 hours 24 hours
maximum
IP concerned
L-IPB2 More than 30 failed connection attempts to an email address with different passwords were made from this IP during the reference period. 7 days 7 days
maximum

L-IPB3 More than 60 failed connection attempts to an email address with different passwords were made from this IP during the reference period 60 days 60 days
maximum

Blocking periods are set up to block malicious robots or scripts attempting to connect using brute force by trying random passwords.

The system calculates the number of failed connections from the same IP during the last reference period. The blocking time indicated in the table above is the maximum value, corresponding to repeated attempts over a short period of time. If blocking follows regular attempts spaced out over time, the effective blocking time will generally be greatly reduced.

III. Unblocking Your Mail Service

We consider that you may not be the author of the failed connection attempts, but that they could have been sent by an unauthorised person with access to your IP and email address.

To reactivate the sending of emails from your IP, you need to change the password of your email account in your LWS customer area by following this documentation. Follow the detailed procedure to change the password, which will block access to your mailbox for any unauthorised person.

Unlocking the email service using a password is only allowed once every 6 hours. Before carrying out this operation, it is therefore crucial to determine the cause of the initial blockage and to take all the necessary steps to prevent any further blockages in the future
.

Don't forget to change the configuration of any devices or software that connect to your email address(es) for which you have changed the password so that they can connect without any problem.

IV. Preventing Type L-IPXX errors

If you are the source of the failed connection attempts and the blocking of your IP :

  • Be careful when entering your password and check that the caps lock or numeric keypad is locked on your keyboard.
  • You are probably using an incorrect password that you think is valid to connect to your email address. If in doubt, don't hesitate to reset it by following this documentation.
  • One or more devices using your Internet connection (computer, tablet, smartphone) may have an incorrect password in their connection settings. Check their settings.

If you are not the cause of the failed connection attempts and the blocking of your IP :

Run an anti-virus scan on the devices where your email addresses are configured. Use tools such as TotalAV, PCProtect, McAfee or Avast to remove all traces of viruses or malware. Then change your email account passwords regularly.

Conclusion

We hope that this documentation has been useful in helping you to understand and resolve L-IPXX errors and to improve the management of your LWS mailings. By following the steps explained here, you will be able to prevent unwanted blocking and optimise your email communication with your recipients. Don't forget to take security measures into account, in particular by changing your password regularly.
