Why is there a special procedure for registering a .FR domain name for a town hall?

Some .FR domain names are subject to prior examination by the AFNIC registry(AFNIC Naming Charter - Article 2.1 "Domain names subject to prior examination").

If you wish to register a domain name subject to prior examination, AFNIC will ask for a number of conditions & supporting documents so that the domain name in question can be allocated to you.

If you wish to register a .FR domain name containing the name of a commune in France, AFNIC will check that you comply with its recommended usage and that you represent the communauté de communes, the commune or the conseil général :

How do I register a .FR domain name for a town hall?

Prerequisite: Only the town council can apply to register the name of its municipality under .FR.

Note: Registering a .FR domain name for a town hall requires manual action on our part, which is invoiced at 29 euros excluding VAT in addition to the price of your initial order.

Follow the steps below to create a .FR domain name for a town hall:

1. Contact our sales department to request registration of the domain name for your local authority

Please provide the full details of your local authority, as well as the domain name to be created and the package and options chosen.

2. The sales department will send you a quotation with the available payment methods (credit card, PayPal, bank transfer) + 29 euros plus VAT.

3. Once payment has been received, we will register your domain name (please allow 24 hours after payment for the domain to be registered).
